Bachelor of Arts in Christian Counseling Prerequisite: Associate of Arts or equivalent (60 semester hours). Each student will be evaluated upon entering the Bachelor degree program. Credit will be given for past studies, ministerial or church related experience, transfer credit and special training related to the BA degree program. The number of courses you will need will then be determined. Requirements: A total of 120 credit hours are needed to receive a Bachelors degree. 60 credit hours from the Associate degree or transfer credits plus ministerial credits and 60 hours in the Bachelor program. Each course is 3 credit hours. All students must complete at least 15 credit hours in the major in which they enroll. Courses in the major are indicated by course numbers (c.f. BTH = Theology, BMN = Ministry, BCC = Christian Counseling, BCE = Christian Education). A minimum of 15 credit hours must be earned from S.B.C.S. No degrees are granted solely upon transferred and life/work credit. Tuition can be paid @ $50.00 per month. Books are paid for when ordered.(The first book must be ordered when entering the program.) The price of each textbook is $45.

Course Description BAC 401 - Doctrine - This course will explain what theology is and then progresses through the doctrines of revelation, God, creation and providence, humanity, sin, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the atonement and salvation, the church, and eschatology. It will also give you pedagogical aids and chapters on post-modernity and contemporizing the gospel. BAC 402 - Basic Christian Theology - This course reminds us that, as humans, we are all theologians. Just experiencing ourselves, others, and the world raises theological questions in our minds. Questions to be answered: Can God be known? Where did the universe come from? How do I know what is right and wrong? Who is Jesus Christ? What is our ultimate destiny as humans? BAC 403 - New Testament Survey - This course will introduce the New Testament and give a broad understanding of the context and themes of the individual 27 books of the New Testament. BAC 404 - Old Testament Survey - This course will introduce the Old Testament and give a broad understanding of the context and themes of the individual 39 books that make up the Old Testament. You will understand the covenants that God made with His chosen people, the Children of Israel. BAC 405 - Prayer - BCC 401 - Christian Counseling - BCC 402 - Competent to Counsel - This course offers profound insight into the way sin affects human personality, and how confession and taking responsibility restore counselees to wholeness in Christ. It will teach you to implement a nouthetic, or Spirit-led, approach to counseling. BCC 403 - Contemporary Family Issues - BCC 404 - Counseling Forgiveness - This course you will learn communal practices and disciplines for a way of life that makes for peace. Forgiving as we have been forgiven. BCC 405 - Crisis & Trauma Counsel - BCC 406 - Christian Ethics - This course deals with the most pressing issues of the day in accordance with Scripture. It includes issues on animal rights, sex ethics, as well as examining how the Bible teaches us to make ethical decisions. It also contains for appendixes addressing drugs, gambling, pornography, and birth control. BCC 407 - Helping People Change - This course is based solely on Scripture and his book has much to say about the relationship between theology and psychology in the enterprise of Christian counseling. If change is the essential goal of the counseling process, how can a Christian counselor facilitate that change and bring about n alteration of the heart? BCC 408 - Strategic Pastoral Counsel - This course will give you a valued practical handbook on pastoral care and counseling. Therapeutic counseling in a Christian context can be highly effective when it maintains narrowly focused goals in a time-limited setting. BCC 409 - Scripture & Counseling - BCC 410 - Financial Management - This course you will learn to be a faithful steward and manage financial challenges with wisdom. This study is based on four economic principles - ownership, stewardship, giving, and contentment - that teach Christians how to establish a foundation for life in order to manage their finances in terms of God's economy. BCC 411 - Psychology & Theology - When troubled people seek guidance from the church, should they hear the same advice they'd receive from a secular counselor? This course explores the role of the church in "soul care," advocating a method of counseling that anchors modern therapy in timeless biblical principles. BCC 412 - Church Evanglism - This course addresses the gap between thousands of contemporary churches and the churches we see in the Acts of the Apostles. The course presents the basic principles and the diversity of applications of those principles in local churches. BCC 413 - Disciple Making - Despite a flood of church programs, is there a drought of disciples? This course will help us see strategies and resources that are working---and which aren't---and discover practical models for growing enthusiastic, mature believers. BCC 414 - Psychology & Theology - When troubled people seek guidance from the church, should they hear the same advice they'd receive from a secular counselor? This course explores the role of the church in "soul care," advocating a method of counseling that anchors modern therapy in timeless biblical principles. BCC 415 - Church History- This course includes Exploring Church History from the day of Pentecost to the modern age; The Truth About Worldviews such as Buddhism, Islam, and various cults; and Biblical Ethics. It guides you through the introduction to Christianity's roots, distinctives, and cultural implications.
